about us

JoJo Maman Bébé was launched in 1993 as a tiny specialist maternity and baby wear company offering real customer service and excellent value for money. Today we have grown to become a brand known across the UK and overseas for fashionable maternity wear, quirky and adorable baby and nursery designs and innovative products but our company ethos and values remain the same.

Despite our growth we have remained committed to the belief that the best way to ensure company values are maintained is to handle all areas of the business in-house. Our customer service department is still based at our Newport headquarters, guaranteeing that when our customers call us, they talk to us.

All our energy and effort is put into keeping our customers happy. We endeavour to do this by:

Offering reasonable prices for excellent quality with free P&P to customers living in mainland UK.

Getting orders delivered as quickly as possible, usually in 3 to 5 days but keeping customers informed of delays if unexpected surges in demand occur.

Offering a helpful service. Our team are always happy to assist with any queries and undergo a thorough training pogramme to ensure they have the knowledge to advise our customers.

our founder

Laura Tenison, founder and Managing Director of JoJo Maman Bébé first conceived the idea after a severe car accident whilst living in France. The woman in the next bed in hospital had been buying clothing for her children via mail order but was complaining that they were all very downmarket. Having spent several years working in France, Laura was enchanted by traditional Breton nautical clothing, a theme which became a key part of JoJo's brand image and which reoccurs in the baby and children's fashion collections throughout the seasons. Laura also observed that unlike the British, continental women dressed with style while pregnant and went on to design a groundbreaking range of mail order bump skimming tops and work suits.

Laura's enthusiasm for the product and the brand, along with her determination that quality of product and high levels of customer service are achieved at all costs has taken the company from a tiny start up to its current level. Laura continues to work alongside all of her staff and gets involved in every area of the company. She is as likely to be seen helping out in the warehouse as proofing the catalogue. Laura insists that all Managers should lead by example and JoJo team members who appreciate this work ethos, generally stay and grow with the company. Naturally as the company has grown she no longer heads all departments but offers an instant solution should the Design or Buying Directors need to bounce an idea off her.

In addition, Laura has worked as a Welsh Development Agency Role Model which entails giving inspirational talks to 15 year olds in comprehensive schools in the Welsh valleys near the company's headquarters. She is also willing, when time permits, to speak to women's business groups and has been guest speaker at a West African Women's business network in Abuja, Nigeria.

Laura is married with two boys who have both modelled for the catalogue when younger. She chooses to have children, a full-time career and a husband and juggles these demands refusing to allow any part of her life to suffer - just like many of our customers. Laura is happy to give her time to inspire others and is often found talking to those who ask her advice when setting up a new business and has written many marketing plans for friends and family.

ethical trading

Our principles have always included a sensible environmental, ethical and sustainable stance:

We don't put our manufacturing out to tender each season to save a few pounds. We prefer to build long term relationships with small producers, mostly in Europe. As a result our profit margins, whilst healthy are about half that of many large retailers.

We use organic or recycled materials, where suitable in our packaging, point of sale materials and some of our fabrics. Since July 2007 our renowned Polartec Fleece collection has been made from recycled plastic bottles but it is still as cosy, warm and comfortable as ever.

Nema, the charity we have chosen to support is committed to sustainably reducing poverty in rural northern Mozambique and 100% of our contributions are guaranteed to go directly to the beneficiaries of the charity. We have pledged to fund the building of a village school. For more information on Nema and our support please click here

Our Stores

Our small chain of boutiques was launched just over two years ago to offer the antithesis of "supermarket style" shopping. We pride ourselves on being a real mutli-channel retailer offering old fashioned customer service values in high street locations. If customers cannot find what they want in-store or have too much to carry, they may place a mail order over the counter with free delivery. All our retail staff are highly trained, have a thorough product knowledge and understand the needs of our customers especially those shopping whilst pregnant or with buggies and toddlers to cope with.

We have continued to expand our stores, having just opened our 22nd in Dulwich, London and have plans for a further 8 over the next 12 months. When looking for a new store location we specifically target local high streets which fail to offer parents a good selection of fashionable and imaginative maternity and baby wear, as well as taking advice from all the customers who take time to contact us with their location ideas.

Our team

The company prides itself on high levels of staff retention with the majority of the founding members still part of the team. We believe in jobs for life for our employees, which in turn improve our staff retention rates and benefit our productivity and efficiency. We offer an in-house staff education programme, an employee profit share scheme and a non-contributory company pension.

We currently employ 221 staff but with all the planned new stores are constantly looking for dedicated employees who value our brand ethos. Please view our recruitment page for a list of our current full or part time opportunities.
