Our Mission
"To be the number one source of high quality, imaginative and practical clothing and products for pregnant women and families with young children. We are committed to providing a first class service through honesty, ethical trading, integrity and respect for our customers’ point of view."
~ Laura Tenison MBE
JoJo Maman Bébé was launched in 1993 as a tiny specialist maternity wear and baby clothing company, offering real customer service and excellent value for money. Today we have grown to become a brand known across the UK and overseas for fashionable maternity wear, quirky and adorable baby clothing, nursery designs and innovative products, but our company ethos and values remain the same.
Despite our growth we have remained committed to the belief that the best way to ensure company values are maintained is to handle all areas of the business in-house. Our customer service department is still based at our Newport headquarters, guaranteeing that when our customers call us, they talk to us.
All our energy and effort is put into keeping our customers happy. We endeavour to do this by:
• Offering reasonable prices for excellent quality, with free P&P to customers living in mainland UK.
• Getting orders delivered as quickly as possible, usually in 3 to 5 days and keeping customers informed of delays if unexpected surges in demand occur.
• Offering a helpful service. Our team are always happy to assist with any queries and undergo a thorough training programme to ensure they have the knowledge to advise our customers.
Our Founder & Directors
Laura Tenison, founder and Managing Director of JoJo Maman Bébé first conceived the idea after a severe car accident whilst living in France. The woman in the next hospital bed had been buying her children’s clothes via mail order, but was complaining that they were all dull and downmarket. Having spent several years working in France, Laura was enchanted by the traditional Breton nautical clothing, a theme which has become a key part of JoJo’s brand image, and which reoccurs in the baby wear and children’s fashion collections throughout the seasons. Laura also observed that, unlike the British, continental women dressed with style while pregnant. She went on to design a groundbreaking range of mail order maternity wear including bump skimming tops and work suits.
Laura’s enthusiasm for the product and the brand, along with her determination that quality of product and high levels of customer service are achieved at all costs, has taken the company from a tiny start up to its current level. Laura continues to work alongside all of her staff and gets involved in every area of the company. She is as likely to be seen helping out in the warehouse as proofing the catalogue. Laura insists that all managers should lead by example, and JoJo team members who appreciate this work ethos, generally stay and grow with the company. Naturally as the company has grown she no longer heads all departments, and has a fantastic team of departmental directors. Karen Fry, Operations Director joined JoJo in 2001 having spent many years in Mail Order and Customer Service. Mel Brown, Design & Brand Director joined JoJo as a Designer more than 10 years ago. Harriet Blanchet, Buying Director has been with the company since it was a start-up and has headed many departments. Last but not least , Emma Brannan, Marketing Director joined the company after 15 years relevant industry experience.
Laura works as a Volunteer Welsh Assembly Role Model, which entails giving inspirational talks to 15 year olds in comprehensive schools in the Welsh valleys near the company's headquarters. She is also willing, when time permits to speak to women's business groups and has been the keynote speaker at WIMBIZ, the West African Women's business network in Abuja, Nigeria. JoJo Maman Bébé and Laura Tenison have won numerous awards over the years and Laura was made an MBE for services to business in 2005. Involvement with the company charity Nema is extremely important and takes up a great deal of time. Laura is married with two boys who have both modelled for the catalogue in the past. She chooses to have children, a full-time career and a husband and juggles these demands refusing to allow any part of her life to suffer - just like many of our customers.
