WE HAVE ALWAYS WORKED UNDER THE ETHOS “WASTE NOT, WANT NOT”
In Place Of Plastic
We are always looking for innovative, more sustainable ways to run our business as a force for good. This includes cutting down on materials that are harmful to the environment. Currently, the bags we despatch our orders in are made from LDPE, which is made from recycled materials and can be recycled by most councils. We also encourage our customers to reuse their bags
around the home, reducing the need for more plastic. All new packaging designs are created with responsibility – we always aim to use recycled and recyclable materials where possible.
We’ve always loved a classic design, which is why you’ll find an extensive collection of wooden toys
made from sustainable sources at JoJo, and fewer plastic toys. Wooden toys are durable enough to last for generations and offer a much richer play experience.
Although we first added reusable nappies to our collection back in 2002, it appeared the world wasn’t ready. Fast forward to 2019, most of us are looking for ways to reduce the amount of waste that we produce – which is why you’ll now find reusable nappies back in our range
Water Refill Points
We have partnered with Refill to become the only mother & baby retailer* to fit water refill points in all our new and refurbished stores, allowing customers to fill their own water bottles and discouraging the need to buy bottled water when out and about. The plan
is to roll out these refill points across as many stores as possible over the next two years.
*Based on May 2019 statistics
Our clothing is displayed in stores on beautifully-made wooden hangers, helping us reduce the amount of plastic we use. Although we use plastic hangers to display our shoes, we keep these and reuse them for new stock. We also offer email receipts to avoid excessive printing, our vinyls are recyclable and our swing tags are made from FSC certified paper. You may occasionally see balloons at some of our store events, but we use biodegradable materials for both the balloon and stick, plus they are helium free! Our other giveaways such as crowns and play sets are made from recycled card.
In our attempt to create less single-use plastic, we have redesigned our gift cards
, changing them to a much more eco-friendly, 100% recyclable cardboard which will be in all stores and online by early 2020.
Our standard shopping bags have been paper since 2006, with plastic sale bags making the switch to paper in 2015. However, we would always encourage our customers to go bag-free. In Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland it is a legal requirement to charge for carrier bags. The income from this is being put towards our JoJo Forever Forest (see Carbon Footprint section).
On a mission to balance our emissions and help protect our planet.

WE PLEDGE TO
Offset all company car travel carbon emissions by 2030.
How will we achieve this? By planting 80 broadleaved or 39 mangrove trees per year.
Our Big Projects
As part of our pledge to put people and planet above profit, we are working hard to minimise our carbon footprint. The whole business is targeted to reduce or offset our carbon use, from the buying to the cleaning teams. Here’s how we are taking action:
Just One Tree Partnership
We are collecting £1 donations in all our stores to raise money for Just One Tree – a charity dedicated to planting trees overseas in developing countries. For every pound we raise, one tree will be planted. Every little helps to combat the climate crisis we are facing today.

The JoJo Forever Forest
To compensate for the emissions that we can’t reduce from the source, we have started
propagating broadleaved indigenous hardwood trees. These have been planted near our head
office in South Wales and in East Sussex, with the aim to create the JoJo Forever Forest… Watch this (green) space!
We are always looking for ways to reduce our carbon footprint and use sustainable resources where
possible. That’s why all UK JoJo stores are powered only by 0% carbon renewable energy, sourced solely from wind, hydro and solar generation.
Carbon Balanced Paper
Working with the World Land Trust, the JoJo warehouse in South Wales proudly balanced 24,138kf
of carbon dioxide in 2019 by using only carbon balanced paper. This will enable World Land Trust to
protect 16,897m² of critically threatened tropical forest under threat of deforestation and degradation.

Reusing Bottles & Fabrics
Better Cotton Initiative
We’ve been making our super soft JoJo Polarfleece from recycled plastic bottles for almost 20 years – before this environmental initiative was even part of common parlance. It takes 17 bottles to make one of our cosy snowsuits!
Our Pack-Away Rainwear is made from shredded polyester, broken down into small fibre chips that are then cleverly stretched and woven into rolls of fabric to create new garments.
We are proud to sell a variety of products that promote our B Corp ethos and go the extra mile to help the planet. In addition to the above, our Waterproof Fleece Lined Buggy Cosy, Enormous Storage Bags and Deluxe Sleeved Bibs are made using recycled materials.
As well as cutting energy and CO2 emissions, we are designing more sustainable products such as these in a bid to reduce landfill and keep the world beautiful for our children.
Prolonging The Life Of Our Clothes
Every year we run a preloved clothing collection campaign called FAMTA, to ensure clothing our customers no longer need can be passed on to another family. Click here
to learn more.
Make Do And Mend
We encourage our customers to learn simple repair skills to extend the life of their clothes. Our Make Do and Mend guide features step-by-step instructions to sew buttons, patch holes and more. Click here

JoJo Maman Bébé is a proud member of the Better Cotton Initiative.
We are committed to
improving cotton farming practices globally with the BCI. Better Cotton is not physically traceable to
end products. However, BCI Farmers benefit from the demand for Better Cotton in equivalent volumes to those we ‘source’.
We are committed to sourcing 100% of our cotton as Better Cotton by 2025.
BCI Farmers exist to care for the environment and respect the rights and wellbeing of workers around the world.
The Better Cotton Initiative makes global cotton production better for people who produce it, better
for the environment it grows in, and better for the sector’s future. By buying products from JoJo
Maman Bébé you’re supporting BCI Farmers who use water efficiently, care for soil health and
natural habitats, reduce use of the most harmful chemicals and respect workers’ rights and wellbeing.
