When your baby is teething, it can be hard to figure out the best thing to help to soothe their sore gums. Fortunately, there are plenty of things that you can introduce to your little one to help them when they’re experiencing teething pain and throughout the whole teething period; right from the first emergence of their first milk teeth till the very last tooth pushes through!
Here’s a collection of 5 things that your baby will love when they’re teething, from experts in the teething babies field, Matchstick Monkey. Try them and see for yourself.
It’s easy and cheap to make homemade rusks, and making them yourself means you can control the amount of sugar in them. If you want to follow a tasty sugar-free recipe, this is an easy one to make:
2 cups of flour (+ half a cup left over, just in case)
Pinch of baking powder
½ cup fruit purée
1- Preheat your oven to 180°C
2- Mix 2 cups of flour and the baking powder into a bowl. Add the egg and some fruit purée then mix together to form a dough, adding more flour from the spare half cup if the mixture is too sticky.
3- Divide into 12 conker size pieces and roll into thick sausage shapes. Put them onto a baking tray lined with greaseproof paper and flatten the shapes with your finger so once cooked, they’re easier for your baby to hold properly.
4- You can dust the tops with something sweet like cinnamon, or for a savoury snack, parmesan also works well.
5- Bake for 30/40 minutes until they’re light brown all over and firm to the touch. Let them cool and then serve.
Fruit feeders or fresh food nibblers are so handy for teething babies! The chilled fruit helps to soothe the gums and it’s also a healthy, tasty treat.
Mash up some chilled fruit straight from the refrigerator like bananas, grapes or strawberries. Pop it in the fresh food feeder and give to your baby to nibble.
Matchstick Monkey was developed specifically with teething babies in mind! Not only is it an effective teething toy, it’s also a cute companion for your baby.
Thanks to the unique shape, your baby will naturally be able to put the monkey’s head right on the source of their pain whilst they chew. The small bumps located on the back of Monkey’s head, work to massage and relieve sore gums, helping your baby get through the often painful teething period.
The shape makes it easy for babies just a few months old to hold, helping them develop their motor skills. Made from BPA free food grade silicone, it’s safe for them to chew all the way through their teething period and beyond.
Breast Milk Lollies
If you’re breastfeeding your baby when they begin teething, why not try making a breast milk lolly? With all-natural ingredients, it’s a great solution to soothing sore gums, satisfying a hungry baby and giving your nipples a rest from any newly emerged teeth!
As a baby produces a lot of saliva when they’re teething, it can irritate their cheeks and face. A cool washcloth not only gives relief to sore gums when chewed on, it can also provide welcome relief to a hot and bothered little face. Wiping your baby’s face regularly when they’re teething is thought to help prevent teething rash and it also keeps your baby’s face soothed and clean!
Wet a couple of cotton washcloths and leave them in the refrigerator overnight. If you’re heading out, carry them with you in a ziplock bag to use on the move.
