Space-saving and multi-tasking essentials for your changing bag

With lockdown restrictions loosening, many of us are finally venturing out to enjoy the warmer weather. However, you might have noticed that the usual public toilets are still closed, your favourite café is takeaway only and you’re struggling to find somewhere to feed, change or soothe your baby. To cover all bases, you might be tempted to pack everything but the kitchen sink in your changing bag, so we’ve rounded up our favourite multi-tasking and space-saving products to lighten the load and help keep things clutter-free.

The mini changing bag

For shorter days out or if your child is beyond weaning stage, leave the changing bag at home altogether! The Skip Hop Pronto Changing Mat folds out to give you a hygienic surface for changing and contains a pocket for a few nappies, a zipped compartment for a mini nappy cream and hand sanitiser, and a container to store plenty of wipes and keep them moist.

The extra large muslin

Muslins aren’t just for wiping spit-up! Go for an extra large size and use it as a breastfeeding cover, a breathable sunshade, an on-the-go swaddle, a picnic blanket or a play surface which can scoop up toys in one go. We love this totally tropical toucan print version, which is sure to delight your little one too.

The do-it-all sanitiser

It’s safe to say we’ve all become a little obsessed with keeping things clean and germ-free. To give yourself peace of mind when out and about, make sure you pack a travel-sized bottle of Aquaint Sanitising Water from Vital Baby in your bag. This amazing multi-purpose anti-bacterial spray has a water-like taste and texture and can be used to sanitise toys, dummies, bottles, eating surfaces – and because it’s safe to be ingested – even on dropped food! It doesn’t need to be rinsed and leaves no residue, making it super simple to use.

The pocket highchair

You might not have realised, but despite restaurants and cafes reopening, many have been advised not to offer the use of highchairs for hygiene reasons. Rather than lug your own booster seat around, or have an uncomfortable meal with a wriggly baby on your lap, pop our pack-away pocket highchair into your bag. It turns almost any normal chair into a safe place for your baby or toddler to sit, folds up to take up hardly any space and is super lightweight.

The space-saving bowl

Not only does the Doidy Bowl feature the same slanted design found on their bestselling cup for easy self-feeding, as well as a suction base for less mess, it can also be rolled up, making it a great addition for your changing bag. Whether you take it to a picnic, a restaurant of a relative’s house, your little one will have their favourite bowl with them wherever they go.

The travel potty

You might have had high hopes to crack potty training during the stricter days of lockdown when you were housebound but for many of us, things didn’t quite go to plan! Potty training can be little trickier when you’re out and about but it’s by no means impossible. The Potette travel potty folds up to fit into your changing bag or back pack, making it really easy to keep with you wherever you are. It can be used as a regular potty if your child is just starting their potty training journey, or can be used on top of a regular toilet as trainer seat or to provide a clean surface for dubious-looking public loos.
