6 Super Staycation Destinations for Parents & Kids

Many of us may have missed out on summer holidays abroad this year, but with the UK finally seeing a spell of good weather, there's no reason why we can't holiday right here! Today on the Little Extras blog, we're sharing 6 super staycation destinations that are worth taking the kids along to, since they're packed full of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy. So, book your spot, pack your bags, and make the most of this great British summertime!

1. SAUNTON SANDS, NORTH DEVON

Perfect for: relaxing by the beach

Back in 2018, we partnered with Saunton Sands Hotel and used this stunning location for our kids’ spring/ summer 2018 collection photoshoot. The JoJo models really put this place to the test, and we can confirm that it is totally child and adult friendly for the perfect staycation. The setting boasts incredible sand dunes and a beach that’s ideal for both surfers and sunbathers. And the hotel offers 2 hours free supervised childcare for children aged 6 weeks to 11 years, so you can have a cheeky cocktail or escape into a book for a while.

2. THE LAKE DISTRICT

Perfect for: connecting with nature

Make the most of this great British summer and spend your staycation outdoors, getting your adventure on in the Lake District. This destination is jam-packed with activities the kids can get involved in – child & buggy-friendly walks, caving, kayaking, archery and more. It’s also home to the fantastic World of Beatrix Potter, Wray Castle and the Lakes Aquarium. Stay in a lodge or yurt with a hot tub, so the adults can have some relaxation time too.

3. NORFOLK, EAST ANGLIA

Perfect for: a seaside holiday

With its long shallow beaches, quaint little shops to browse, family-friendly cafés and restaurants, there’s no surprise Norfolk made it onto our list. The beaches tend to be clear of hard rocks so toddlers can run wild, and depending on where you stay, there are steam trains, a model village, piersa Sea Life centre, and plenty of amusement parks, National Trust sites and outdoor playgrounds to explore.

4. NEW FOREST, HAMPSHIRE

Perfect for: a little bit of everything

New Forest itself is a national park, so if you’re staying in the forest, you’ll never be short of outdoor activities including long walks, wildlife spotting, camping and more. But, another appealing side to this destination is that it’s situated close to other attractions like Peppa Pig World, ferries to the Isle of Wight and beautiful beaches should you fancy a change from the countryside.

5. THE ISLE OF WIGHT

Perfect for: feeling more like a holiday

You’re on an island – so this counts as a holiday, right? Ferry rides can be taken from Lymington to Yarmouth, or Portsmouth to Fishbourne or Ryde. Children will be convinced you’re going somewhere faraway and tropical on the ferry ride, and once you arrive, they won’t be disappointed by the scenic walks, special landmarks, beaches, and maybe even a visit to the Blackgang Chine Land of Imagination!

6. CENTER PARCS / BUTLINS

Perfect for: easy, organised fun

For those seeking a staycation where all attractions are on your doorstep and minimum imagination and creativity are required to keep the kids entertained so you can sit back and relax, Center Parcs and Butlins are classic choices. With huge pools, thrilling fair grounds, evening entertainment and outdoor activities, there’s something for kids of every age.
