Rainy days open up a world of playtime possibilities - remember, there really is no such thing as bad weather! So wrap up in waterproofs and prepare for puddles as you and your little one brave the great outdoors for a splishy, splashy day of fun.

Splash-in-puddles days

Rainy days are just as much fun for your little stompers as sun-soaked adventures, so let your little one indulge in some messy muddy magic. Get some kids’ wellies on and take your little one out and about and challenge them to see how many puddles they can hop in! You can also encourage them to enjoy a mindful moment by asking them to stand in a puddle and gently tap their feet, counting the ripples they make. Or see if they can build a bridge across the puddle and walk across it without falling in!

Nature’s treasure hunt

Stomp, splash and toddle through trees, jumping, playing and crunching leaves. Take your little one on an enchanting woodland walk, listen to the raindrops as they bounce on the leaves of trees and see what tiny treasures you can find along the way. From acorns to pinecones, colourful leaves and conkers, you can make a little treasure map or a game of bingo for your little ones to play as they hunt for nature’s magical trinkets. Bring your foraged fancies back home and perhaps it’s time for kids arts and crafts...

As you wind down from the excitement of puddle jumping and treasure hunting, you can simply let your little one take some time to explore the natural world around them. See how many bugs they can find peeping out of logs and bushes, and enjoy the different shapes, sounds and sights around them. It can also be lots of fun to let them get messy with some mud pie-making!

Once you’re back indoors, the fun doesn’t stop there! Time to enjoy some arts and crafts with the treasures you found from the day. Dip your pine cones, acorns and leaves in paint and make some prints, or hide them around the house to enjoy a game of hide and go-seek.

Make a cosy corner and pick out your favourite activity book, story book or audiobook and slip into a world of imagination, accompanied by the soothing sounds of the rain outside. Mmm... how cosy!
