The details that matter

Most newborns will spend the majority of their time in sleepsuits, so these useful details are here to make life a little easier.

Soft fabric compositions: Cotton is breathable, comfortable to wear with a nappy and is easy to wash, making it a practical choice for everyday wear.

Easy fastenings: Look for poppers or zips that allow the sleepsuit to open widely, so you can change your baby without too much wriggling or undressing.

Baby-safe zip details: A zip-up sleepsuit should have a fabric guard behind the fastening; our zip sleepsuits are always designed with 2-way concealed zips and chin guards to help protect delicate skin.

Fold-over scratch mittens: These can help stop newborns from accidentally scratching their faces and remove the need for separate mittens. The majority of our sleepsuits are designed this way for sizes up to 9-12 months. Check the individual product details for more info.

Fully-lined appliqués and embroideries: Tiny designs look cute, but unlined appliqués and embroideries may scratch baby's delicate skin. Always make sure they are fully lined on the inside. At JoJo, we always take steps to ensure softness from the start, such as printed labels rather than tags, so it won't rub against baby's neck.

Thread-free, built-in feet: Footed sleepsuits keep little toes covered without the need for socks that may wriggle off. Our sleepsuits offer toe-safe features, such as thread-free designs, which means loose threads won't get caught and wrapped around tiny toes.

Grippy dots on the feet: When babies are older and starting to toddle, they may need a helping hand. Our older baby sizes (from 9-12 months) come with grippy dots on the soles to offer some steady support while you supervise them on their household wanders.

Multipacks or separates?

The answer is usually a little of both. Multipack sleepsuits are ideal for building the practical foundations and make life easier when it comes to spills and outfit changes. Separates give you the chance to opt something a little more special; beautiful embroideries, character designs and matching accessories make individual sleepsuits lovely picks for milestone photos, visiting family members and as thoughtful gifts.

FAQs

A sleepsuit is a soft, all-in-one baby outfit that covers the body, arms and legs. Many designs also include built-in feet. Sleepsuits are sometimes called babygrows and can be worn during both the day and night, making them one of the most versatile pieces in a newborn's wardrobe.

The exact number you need will depend on how often you plan to wash clothes and how frequently your baby needs changing. Starting with around six to eight sleepsuits gives you a useful rotation without buying too many in one size before your baby arrives. You may even receive a few from friends and family as gifts, that come in handy when you least expect it. Once you know your baby’s size, your favourite fastening style and how quickly you tend to work through the washing, you can always add more to their collection.

A bodysuit can be worn underneath a sleepsuit when your baby needs an additional lightweight layer to stay warm. Whether one is needed will depend on the room temperature, the season and any bedding/sleeping bag you are using.

There is no set age when babies need to stop wearing sleepsuits. You can continue using them for as long as they fit comfortably and work well for your child’s routine. Our sleepsuits typically range up to 12-18 months.
