What is UPF 50+ fabric?

UPF50+ rated fabric (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) is material designed to block UV rays from the sun. With a 50+ rating, it blocks at least 97% of harmful UVA and UVB rays, allowing 2% or less to pass through. This feature adds another layer of protection on top of their sunscreen to reduce the risk of sunburn and skin damage.

What are the benefits of a rash vest?

Rash vests are made from lightweight, quick-drying fabrics that keep kids comfortable in and out of the water, while UPF50+ protection shields delicate skin from harmful sun rays, while the stretchy material moves with them for active splash-filled days.

What extras do I need for sun protection?

For outdoor swims during high summer, pair a UPF50+ rash vests or a swimsuit with a wide-brimmed hat to shield the face and neck, and kid-friendly sunscreen on exposed skin. Sunglasses with UV protection and a lightweight cover-up such as a towelling poncho can add another layer of defense, keeping little ones safe while they splash and play. And for babies, we have lots more info in our guide about sun protection for babies under 6 months.

When would they need a wetsuit?

For unheated swimming pools, UK ocean or lake activities or extended swimming sessions, wetsuits are ideal as it traps a thin layer of warm water against their skin to keep them comfortable while splashing, bodyboarding, or paddling.

What type of swimwear and extras do babies need?

Depending on the environment babies need to be kept warm from the water and shielded from the sun. It’s important to note that most public swimming pools require them to wear a swim nappy and if they’re unheated or below 30°C, you might want to consider a baby wetsuit for them (Don’t forget the warm, fluffy towel for afterwards!). Planning their first trip to the pool? We have lots more info and a handy checklist in our guide for baby swimming lessons.
